A geological excursion to Hutton’s classic Unconformity at Siccar Point.
Siccar point is a Mecca for geologists world wide. Here in 1788 Dr James Hutton, the founder of modern geology, made one of the fundamental advances in geological understanding. Clifftop Discovery has exclusive access, through Redheugh Farm, directly to Siccar Point. We can transport interested parties down to Redheugh beach and on to a terrace on the cliffs which closely overlooks Siccar Point. Here, in beautiful surroundings, we can explain the significance of Hutton’s findings first hand. A short walk leads down to the foreshore. There we can capture the same excitement that Hutton must have felt when he saw these classic rocks for the first time and knew that his theories about the age of the Earth must be true.
